In this photo book, every single picture conveys a special mood and tells of Ghana's culture - even if they are only moments, Maria Ehrlich captures a story with her photos. She tells this story with her book Ayaolo (in English "we keep going"), which is now available for order.
Real and aesthetic, we see through Maria's eyes the woman at the roadside with her mysterious look and striking hairstyle, the headscarves glowing in the warm evening sun under heavy loads or the overloaded clothes rack full of white shirts in the dusty city.
In the winters of 2019 - 2023, the photos for the coffee table book "Ayalolo" were taken in the capital Accra and other parts of Ghana, initially as a personal memory, taken with her iPhone.
"When I first traveled to Ghana, I was overwhelmed by the open culture and the positive energy, music and good vibes seemed to come from every corner. I wanted to capture the special colors of Ghana, the interesting faces and touching moments. I want to show how I perceived Ghanaian culture - from my own personal perspective and finding beauty in very simple and everyday things."
in the daily life of Ghana, Maria finds her motifs, which have never been staged. Precisely for this reason, each picture seems like a real connection. In addition to touching images, deep friendships have also developed that connect Maria with Ghana today.
